Tensions tent and tarp lines and lets you re-tension any time.
Difficulty: Easy
Step 1 of 5Pass the rope around the peg and lead it back up. Step 2 of 5Wrap the end once around the line to the tarp. Step 3 of 5Wrap a second time, below the first turn. Step 4 of 5Bring the end up and wrap it once above. Step 5 of 5Pull the knot snug. Slide it up to tension.
Pros
- Just slide it to tighten the line.
- Holds under load without retying.
- Without load it usually unties easily, even when wet.
Cons
- Can slip on smooth or very thin rope.
- Needs tension on the line, otherwise it sits loose.
Holding and untying
Holds well while the line is under tension. Without load you can slide and untie it.
Suitable rope
Tent and tarp lines made of braided rope. Very smooth lines slip more easily.
Common mistake
The last turn ends up down with the others. Then it can slip.
How to check it
Two turns towards the peg, one above. Under load it should stay put.
