Frequently asked questions
Is everything really free?
The basic app (pitch search, map, trips, packing list, weather, calculators) stays free forever for all users. Everyone who signs up by 31 December 2026 becomes a Pathfinder and also gets lifetime Premium: all current and future Premium features free forever — in return Pathfinders help us with feedback and spot suggestions. No subscription, no credit card.
What happens after 31 December 2026?
The basic app stays free for everyone after that too. Only planned Premium features (e.g. route tracking, unlimited trips, advanced filters) will at some point become paid for new users. Pathfinders keep everything free for life — that’s the only real difference.
Do I have to install the app?
No. Open your browser, type via.camp, done — on phone, tablet or laptop. If you like, use “Add to Home Screen” to get ViaCamp as an app icon.
What happens to my data?
The server is in Germany (Frankfurt), GDPR-compliant. You can delete your account yourself at any time in your profile under “Account”. No sharing with third parties, no ad trackers, no analytics cookies. Only cookie‑free audience measurement on our own server and anonymous server logs for troubleshooting.
Where do the 55,000 pitches come from?
From OpenStreetMap and Wikidata — the largest open geodata projects, maintained by millions of volunteers. Users can add or correct pitches, and every change is moderated. That keeps the data more up to date than any printed guide.
Is there an app for iPhone and Android?
The progressive web app already runs on both today — near-native, with a home-screen icon. A true Flutter app for iOS and Android is in the works. Pathfinders get it automatically at no extra cost.
How do I delete my account?
In the app under Profile → Account → “Delete account”. To confirm, you type your account name, plus your password and, with two-factor sign‑in, a code. Your name, email address, trips, diary, packing list and saved places are deleted immediately. Reviews, photos, reported places and recorded routes stay for other campers and appear as “Deleted user”. If you want them gone too, write to martin@via.camp.
